Dr. Denaesh Ariyanayagam is a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon, healthcare executive, educator, and academic contributor whose career has spanned decades of leadership in surgery, medical education, and healthcare development in Trinidad and Tobago. Widely respected for his professionalism, clinical precision, and dedication to patient advocacy, he has played a significant role in advancing surgical standards and healthcare infrastructure throughout the region. From an early age, Dr. Ariyanayagam demonstrated both academic excellence and athletic discipline. During his secondary school years, he earned numerous academic awards while also competing at the national level in track and field and representing his school in swimming. These experiences helped shape the focus, resilience, and discipline that would later define his medical career. He pursued undergraduate medical training at the University of the West Indies, graduating with honors in Medicine and Therapeutics in 1984 while earning the prestigious Gold Medal in Medicine. Driven by a commitment to surgical excellence, he continued his postgraduate training in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, where he earned Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1989.
